LEA Activity: Language Play

In the fall,
grasshoppers dance and ants crawl across the ground
the weather tense and coiled, ready for change
the cloth of life turning into an array of orange and gold
the sign of a new change
bears settle into the briar
to find a place warm and dry
away from winter's frosty fingers
the stun still reigns, shining down warmth
a breath. a pause. autumn rises.

~Word - x - word, line - x - line ~
Instructions: Tell students they are going to write a line. You will provide them a word. It doesn't have to be a complete sentence; you just have to use the word in a line. The line can't be longer than the line on the page. The lines should connect somehow, like perhaps to tell a story. Punctuation isn't necessary.
Word by word, go through the list and give students time to think and write. Students can use any variation of the word, add endings or suffixes.
